Some of the world’s most renowned teachers join with guiding teacher Allan Lokos as we endeavor to develop greater compassion, lovingkindness, wisdom, generosity, and equanimity. The CMC exists for all who would seek a more joyful and meaningful life.

History

Moved by the events of September 11, 2001, Revs. Susanna Weiss and Allan Lokos founded the Community of Peace and Spirituality. Their efforts were focused on creating a place where people of all religions, spiritual practices, and faith traditions could come together and explore their spiritual selves, both individually and collectively. The Community was supported by leaders from many traditions including Father Thomas Keating, Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi, Brother David Steindl-Rast, Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, Sharon Salzberg, Swami Atmarupananda, Iyanla Vanzant, and Wayne Muller.

CherishedOver time the Community made many friends and became a refuge in a bustling city. In 2008 we shifted our emphasis and became the Community Meditation Center and the direction moved to the study and practice of meditation in the Buddhist Theravada tradition. Supported by a group of enthusiastic and hard working managers and a dedicated board of directors the CMC is flourishing and earning a reputation as a joyful place of peace, learning, and tranquility.

Mission Statement
Through the exploration and practice of Buddhist teachings we seek to develop greater lovingkindness, compassion, and wisdom. By gathering together in community we support one another in our efforts to alleviate suffering and stress in ourselves and in the world. The CMC welcomes all without regard for race, religion, color, age, gender, sexual orientation, disability, economic or social status.
